A vibrant intellectual culture supported by world-class facilities
The SOAS Doctoral School aims to provide our postgraduate research students with the best PhD experience possible. We support doctoral researchers at every step of their PhD journey, providing guidance, information, and help when things are not going as planned. We provide excellent research infrastructure and facilities, in terms of space for writing, co-working, and socialising and through our four PGR grant schemes. And we foster PGR research culture through our online and in-person programmes of training, skills development, collaboration, and discussion.
The Doctoral School strategy flows from the SOAS Research and Knowledge Exchange Strategy, which has four main objectives: Creating an Enabling Environment, Building and Developing Capacity, Fostering Ideas and Building Connections, and Increasing our Visibility and Influence.
For our doctoral researchers, the strategy aims to cultivate a strong and well-supported research community, and to develop effective, well-run, and responsive training programmes and support structures.
By 2026 we will have created an attractive and innovative environment for PhD and early career researcher development, improving every stage of the doctoral and ECR journey, from training and supervision to collaborative working, to funding and support, evidenced in greater satisfaction with our training and research environment.
